Astronomy On Wheels – 6/23/2026 -Sienna Branch – Fort Bend County Library

I knew the people living in the Fulshear/Katy area had a thirst for science but they were rivaled by the folks living in the Sienna/Missouri City area last night at the Sienna Branch of the Fort Bend County Library.  After Don Cooper gave his Apollo presentation to a full room, we were bombarded with questions. You would have thought Don was a rockstar and people wanted to have their picture taken with him.  After a full hour of presenting and answering questions, Don stayed in the room to talk to folks as I headed outside to check on the telescopes.

Oh boy what a group of telescope volunteers we had:

  • There was Amelia and Steve Goldberg with Amelia’s famous pink dobsonian scope named Astraea.
  • Tony Wiese with the large AOW Televue refractor, Harish Radhakrishnan and son Samvith with their dobsonian.
  • Robert Ray with his SeeStar S30 smart scope, Mac and Robin Hooton with Mac’s Takahashi, John Spencer with his classic Newtonian and Wayne Wiegand with his large dobsonian.
  • Todd Dunnavant and Hareesh Janakiraman were assisting and their support was greatly appreciated.

New members Lola and Seyi Harris with son Bolutife attended to see what AOWs were all about and I look forward to learning more about them and helping them on their Astronomy journey.

A big thanks to Stephen Walker who donated a brand new voice amplifier speaker with wireless microphone to the AOW program to make sure our presenters are clearly heard.   I received it the day of the event and Don was able to use it during his presentation.
