Loaner Telescopes

FBAC has several telescopes which are available for loan to members. This is an important member benefit especially to newer members who are just starting out in their astronomy journey or experienced members who want to learn a new skill such as astrophotography. The program includes not just use of the telescope but also training and mentoring.

Members are asked to put the time in to learn how to properly use, transport, store and care for the telescope and to attend two FBAC outreach events (Astronomy On Wheels during the school year) with the telescope for each three month period the telescope is loaned out with a maximum of six months total.

Qualifications for borrowing a telescope include:

  • Be a dues paid member for the period of the loan.
  • Have been an FBAC member for at least three months.
  • Have attended two FBAC events in person. FBAC events include monthly meetings, Astronomy on Wheels, Group Mentoring sessions and FBAC member observing events.
  • Attend a training session on how to use, transport, store and care for the telescope.
  • Present a valid government issued ID and sign for the equipment received.
