On Sunday, October 12, 2025, 25 FBAC members and 25 other volunteers were feted by the Houston Museum of Natural Science Sugar Land (HMNS SL) via a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. The event was held to honor those who freely support the Museum and its George Observatory via their time, talents, and enthusiasm. The meal was delicious, the conversation was enjoyable, and the museum displays (attendees got the run of the museum!) were enthralling!
FBAC members volunteer to support the weekly Saturday Stargazing events at the George Observatory. On most any Saturday, FBAC members can be found staffing the Observatory’s three domes, including the East Dome with its FBAC-owned 17-inch-aperture telescope and supporting equipment. Additional members bring out their personal telescopes, or use mobile Museum-owned scopes, to provide the public with other viewing opportunities on the Observation Deck.
The accompanying photograph shows the FBAC members who attended the dinner. They represent about half of the FBAC members who volunteer at the George Observatory during any given year.
