After a day of heavy rains, we decided to move forward with the AOW event at St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church in Missouri City on Tuesday, April 21st, as an indoor only event. We had about 15 brave souls attend the event which included a few members of a Girl Scout troop. Starting off the presentation, Todd Dunnavant gave a brief talk about FBAC. Leonard Ferguson gave the main presentation on the Artemis mission. The same presentation he gave at the last FBAC meeting.
- I wrapped the talks with my Telescope Basics presentation.
- Wendy Walfoort brought her table top Newtonian which she setup to point across the sanctuary at a picture of Jupiter taped to a wall which the attendees enjoyed looking through.
- Hareesh Janakiraman assisted with moving tables and other equipment.
The event was organized by FBAC member Skip Griffin, who is a member of the St Catherine church, and Pastor Andrew stopped by to see how things were going.
The folks that did show up asked quite a lot of questions during the event so we had a very engaged audience. We felt that had the weather been great we would have had a good size crowd and we have another shot at this location on September 29th.
I really appreciate our FBAC volunteers who came out for this one, and even though it was a small audience everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event. Of course as we left the event, the skies taunted us with a small clearing revealing the Moon and Venus.
