Astronomy On Wheels – 2/19/26 – Harvest Green Community – Richmond Center

We love our yearly repeat events but we are always excited to do new ones.  Such was the case on Thursday night, February 19th, at the Harvest Green Community in Richmond.   They are a master-planned community that takes the planning part to another level.  They had 375 residents register for this event and it has been a while since we have seen that many folks at an AOW.

Inside the presentation room, we had Don Cooper give his presentation on Apollo 11 & 13 and Leonard Ferguson presented on the upcoming Artemis II launch and beyond.   That was an amazing combination of the past and present Moon missions.

Outside we had Sean Carey, Steve Clayworth, and Wayne Wiegand with telescopes and new AOW volunteer Richard Mannarino with large binoculars.  Always like to see new volunteers and am grateful Richard was able to join us as we were very busy as the residents showed up en masse.  The weather cleared early than expected but that meant the clouds would return earlier too.  We were clear up until around 7:30p when we had to wait for cloud bands to pass to see Jupiter although the skinny Moon stayed more clear during the event.

This is definitely a venue we would like to return to, and we may have picked up some future new members as we had many questions about our club.
